A Report Of Guide Interpreting In Whampoa Military Academy

With the rapid growth of economy and technology, the world is becomingincreasingly globalized and internationalized. In the meantime, international culturalinteraction is constantly developing in various fields. These factors have been leadingto the unprecedentedly fast development of tourism industry. Guide interpreting canbe seen as a typical cross-cultural activity. Therefore this report is an attempt to studyguide interpreting on the basis of an interpreting experience, and to bring into playrelevant interpreting theories and strategies that have been learned so as to achieveintercultural communication effectively and to enrich the study of interpretingpractice transcript of different types.This report of the guide interpreting practice in Whampoa Military Academyincludes four parts. The first part briefs some information about the task, the generalconcept, the development trend of guide interpreting, and the academic value of thereport. The second part is an introduction to the pre-task preparation including thebuilding up of a glossary, the field survey, etc. In addition, the chapter also shows theexpected challenges and the selection of strategies. Next, through a case study, thethird part demonstrates the interpreting strategies, such as paraphrasing strategy, themethod of necessary explanation after direct interpretation of proper names of certainevents, and cancellation of unnecessary information. The last part is the conclusion,making self-evaluation of the interpreter, pointing out the major findings of the task,and proposing some advices about how to successfully cope with difficulties duringthe guide interpreting in the future, particularly difficulties related to politics and themilitary.
