| With the fast development of economy and technology, the world is becoming more global and international. At the same time, international cultural communication is developing on every aspect. Especially China has become a new star on international stage;an increasing number of foreigners are attracted to visit here. These factors lead to unprecedented growth of tourism industry. Guide interpreting, as a typical cross-cultural activity, emerges with this trend. However the existing cultural differences always cause misunderstandings and mistakes. In this thesis, the author hopes to study the guide interpreting from real experience, and try to summaries the guide interpreting strategies. By this way, the effective intercultural communication could be achieved and Chinese guide interpreting theory would be supplemented.This report is divided into five parts—Task Description, Process Description,Preparations before Translation, Case Analysis and Practice Summary, among which Case Analysis is the core part. The first two parts are a generalization of the background information and particulars of this interpreting. The third part of Preparations before Translation describes the preparations made by the author in three respects. The Case Analysis part discusses the communication barriers from cultural differences, including differences in historical factors, social customs, religion beliefs and value concepts. And all the influences on guiding interpreting of these factors are demonstrated by real cases. Based on these two theories---domestication and foreignization, the author concludes four specific strategies: changing cultural images, removing confusing and significant information, directly interpreting Chinese terms and adding explanation after literal interpreting. The last part is conclusion, it highlights the importance of means to avoid cultural barriers and overviews the inspiration of future work, which attaches great significance on guide interpreting. |
