E-C Term Translation: Problems And Strategies

The aim of this research is to explore effective strategies to solve the E-C termtranslation problems in the process of translation based on General Theory ofTerminology and the case studies of New Compact Visual Dictionary. Term translationstudies in China starts in recent years and achieves remarkable success. Meanwhile,there is a great gap between term translation theoretical studies and term translationpractice. This research starts with a summary of the previous findings and theirlimitations, and then classifies the main types of term translation problems byanalyzing the translated terms in construction and auto field from the New CompactVisual Dictionary. Next, the causes of these problems will be analyzed by means ofthe principles and procedures of term translation. Then some proposed strategies tosolve these problems will be offered. At the same time, application of these proposedstrategies will be illustrated to improve the quality of the translated terms in the NewCompact Visual Dictionary.
