A Practice Report On The Translation Of Social Insurance And Allied Services

This translation practice report is based on the English-Chinese translation of the firstpart of Social Insurance and Allied Services. The report includes the following five parts:Task Description, Process Description, Pre-translation Preparation, Case Analysis andPractice Summary.The task description gives a brief introduction on the task source and Social Insuranceand Allied Services. The process description gives a brief description of the translationprocess, including three stages: preparation, translation and review. The part of pre-translationpreparation includes three aspects. First, after reading the original carefully, the authorsummarizes the features of this material, including formality, objectivity, specialty and strongpolicy. Second, through reading some materials on social security and China’s governmentwork report, the author gets the basic knowledge of social insurance and the features of thegovernment work report, which can be used for reference during the translation. At last, somenecessary technical terms are listed in this part. The case analysis part makes an analysis ontranslation methods with specific cases in the translation, such as division, explicitation,addition, omission and restructuring. This part also includes an analysis on some translationmistakes. The last part gives a summary about this translation practice, mainly including theauthor’s translation experience, four problems confronted with during translation and thecorresponding countermeasures. And finally the author figures out the direction of futurestudy.
