This thesis is based on the author’s experience as a liaison interpreter in TheNinth China-Northeast Asia Expo appointed by Jilin Foreign Affairs Office, escortinga delegation from the Republic of Romania. The author served as a bridge ofcommunication between the Jilin provincial government and the Romaniandelegation.In this thesis, the author gives a brief description of this interpretation task andits process, highlighting the interpretation among three languages: Romanian, Englishand Chinese, as well as the impact of heavy Romanian accent brought on overallinterpretation quality. Focuses are put on analyzing problems appeared in the processof interpretation, such as cross-cultural pragmatic failure. The author also makes anassessment of interpretation quality in terms of weaknesses, such as informationlosses and a lack of fluency. And then it concludes their causes from the perspectiveof cultural differences.Finally, some suggestions are introduced to improve interpretation performance,with regard to improving “Non-native” interpretation, coping with pragmatic failure,strengthening short-term memory and developing stable psychological quality toguide the future possible liaison interpretation career. |
