This thesis is written in the form of a practical report based on the author’s realexperience of working as a consecutive interpreter for an MBA training programhosted by Delaware State University. This report is essentially a self-reflection andself-evaluation of the author’s own interpreting activities. It is written under theguidance of theories put forward by Barbara Moser Mercer to evaluate the author’sperformance. The three models under his theories are evaluation, measurement andjudgment. There is plenty of theoretical guidance for field consecutive interpreting. However, there are relatively few studies on real cases. In addition, compared with arelatively ideal environment designed by the simulation interpreting, field interpretingis carried out in a more authentic context, which will truly reflect the capabilities ofan interpreter. Therefore, it is worthy of study. In this thesis, the author and interpreter, who have worked for ten sessions for the MBA program, by elaborating on one of themost striking cases of her field interpreting activities, offers a new perspective forconsecutive interpreting. This thesis gives an all-round description of the fieldinterpreting by highlighting the strengths and weaknesses as well as situation-handling abilities throughout the interpreting process to prove her opinion. Thepurpose of this thesis is to deliberate on the author’s personal experience of workingas a consecutive interpreter to invite suggestions. The opinion of the author is that tobe a qualified interpreter necessitates not only verbal but also non-verbal abilities. Aninterpreter is at the same time a coordinator.
