With the development of China's science and technology,exchanges with foreign countries in the sci-tech area have increased and are more flexible and diversified.As a result,translation in the field of science and technology,sci-tech interpreting in particular,has played more and more an important part and has received more and more attention,which calls for an ever increasingly number of interpreters to work on it.Meanwhile,foreign aid training,as an important part of China's foreign aid project,has played a positive role in promoting China's international relations and foreign economic cooperation.Translation work throughout the whole project has become one of the characteristics that distinguish foreign aid training from general training.In this backdrop,it is of utmost importance to study the effectiveness of our interpreting job in the foreign aid training programs so as to upgrade the overall quality of the foreign aid project of our country.From August 6th to 26th,2015,the author worked as a consecutive interpreter for the 2015 Training Program on Tunnel Construction and Management for Developing Countries,a foreign aid training project organized by Fujian Foreign Trade and Economic Cooperation Officials' Training Centre and sponsored by China's Ministry of Commerce.The project is targeted at 21 officials from 11 countries in Asia and Africa.As a report on consecutive interpreting,this dissertation analyzes the author's interpreting job for the lecture on ROAD TUNNEL LIGHTING AND ITS POWER SUPPLY AND DISTRIBUTION SYSTEM from two perspectives:sci-tech interpreting and foreign aid training program interpreting.By quoting actual examples from the interpreting task,this report discusses difficulties and the coping strategies of the sci-tech interpreting in a foreign aid training program.This report is composed of five parts.The first part is a brief introduction to the status quo of China's foreign aid program under the background of internationalization,the training program the author was engaged in and the specific interpreting task the author was assigned to undertake.In the second part,the report reviews the research findings of sci-tech interpreting at home and abroad.In the third part,the whole process of the interpreting task is described,including the preparation before the task and the evaluation after the task.The fourth part is a detailed study on the interpreting theories and strategies by citing examples from the interpreting task.The following six areas of coping strategies are discussed,which are interpretation of terminology,long sentences with complicated structures,graphs and formulas,influences on interpreting quality due to fast speed,unfamiliar accent and the anxiety caused by the multi tasks of displaying PPT slides while interpreting.In the last part,this report summarizes the features of sci-tech interpreting in foreign aid training programs,the lessons the author has gained from the task as well as his suggestions on the improvement of interpreting courses of the MTI program in the hope of benefiting the MTI program in the future.
