Based on the translation task The Plant Operation Manual of MTP Process, which belongs to the CoalBased Propylene Project, this translation report gives an introduction, research and summary of the procedures tofulfill the task. The manual mainly describes the procedures of how to start-up, how to execute the check,installation and cleaning of various instruments, and some operation notes. The target readers are operators, andthe purpose of translation is to provide operators with a correct way of handling machine according to thetranslation text.The translation report has five parts, including introduction, the pre-translation, translation process, caseanalysis and conclusion. There are three aspects in the part of introduction: the first one is the researchbackground, the second one is research significance, and the last one is task description. The second part of thisreport is the pre-translation, which includes translation schedule, translation theory, i.e. skopos theory, and thetype and features of the source text, which serves as one of the two main points of this report. The authoranalyzes the features of EST from the view of lexicon and syntax, and chooses translation accordingly. The thirdpart is translation process, which consists of the formulation of terminology, the choice of translation tools andresources, and principles of EST translation. Based on the previous theories and study, the author puts forwardthree principles, i.e. faithfulness, plainness, and conciseness. The next part is case analysis, which is the othermain point of this report. The author uses examples to illustrate the five major techniques adopted in thetranslation, i.e. translate in original order, inversion, addition, conversion and division. Besides, the authorsummarizes two kinds of typical errors in the author s translation in accordance with the client s feedback,aiming to remind other translators to avoid such errors. The fifth part is the last part of this report. The authorconcludes the three qualifications of EST translators, the experience gaining from this translation task and thelimitation of this report.
