This is a translation project report on the fifth chapter entitled "The Internal Lexicon", which comes from the famous book Psychology of Language (fifth edition) by the American psychology professor David W. Carroll. The original book is an educational works, which discusses the principles of psycholinguistics from five aspects, that is General issues, Language comprehension, Language production and conversation interaction, Language acquisition and Language in perspective. The book believes that psycholinguistics is a professional science, which presents a series of psycholinguistics experiments and discusses the psycholinguistics problems from multi-angles.The contents of this translation report can be distributed into four parts. The first part is the Introduction, including project sources, project requirements and structure. The second part is directed at the research background, including theoretical basis and text introduction. The third part involves the difficulties and problems in the translation as well as the approaches to solve the problems. The last part is the experiences of translation practice, including the lessons learned from the translation and the unsolved problems. In the whole process of translation, this paper is mainly guided by Nida’s functional equivalence theory. Meanwhile, the translation skills are also used in this report in translating, such as the conversion, amplification, omission and so on.
