This thesis is a translation report.The source text of the translation practice,the tender document of the construction of Okavango River Bridge in the Republic of Botswana: C 3.4 Amendments to COLTO Standard Specification,falls into the information-type text of legal contract.The source text complied accordingly the “General Conditions of Contract for Road and Bridge Works for State Road Authorities,” complied by the Committee of Land Transport Officials(COLTO)of the Republic of Botswana and the “Conditions of Contract for Construction for Building and Engineering Works Designed by the Employer”(1999)issued by the International Federation of Consulting Engineers(FIDIC).The source text bears the features of prudent tone,complicate sentence structures and abundant professional engineering terms.The translator adopted the translation theory of Functional Equivalence proposed by Eugene Nida,which seeks the functional equivalence in the field of the information transmission between the source language and the target language.Under the guidance of this translation theory,the mainly translation techniques were applied by the translator to complete this translation mission are omission,conversion,splitting and reorganization.The translation mission of the source text laid a positive foundation for the company to bid successfully.In addition,the translator gained a lot from this translation mission and has profound understanding about how to achieve the faithfulness and expressiveness of the information-type text.
