This paper takes the 571 words in Developing Chinese Elementary Comprehensive Course as the research object. Through the analysis of the structure of Chinese characters in accordance with Shuowen Jiezi, it divided the 571 words into pictogram,Self-explanatory characters, associative characters and phonogram. And on this basis,discussed the Chinese characters using in the textbook is the original meaning or extended meaning and borrowed meaning. Lastly it tried to provide some suggestions for teaching Chinese characters.The main parts of this paper are as follows:The first part discusses the research significance and literature review.The second part is according to Ziyuan, Shuowen Jiezi and other tools to classify the structure of Chinese characters and analysis the original meaning of the 571 words. At the same time, divides these words into pictogram, Self-explanatory characters, associative characters and phonogram.The third part is to analysis the original meaning or extended meaning and borrowed meaning used in Developing Chinese Elementary Comprehensive Course.The fourth part tries to provide some suggestions for teaching Chinese characters.Through the above analysis, we will get a deeper understanding about the 571 words’ meaning used in Developing Chinese Elementary Comprehensive Course. During the study,we have a deeper understanding about that teaching Chinese characters should adopt scientific teaching method, enrich teaching measures and improve the teaching efficiency.
