The passive sentences attract many attentions in the grammar field. The mostrepresentative grammar scholar Chomsky even regards the passive sentences as thethe lever to push forward the language theory. This dissertation focuses on theomitted rules of the BEI. First, on the base of discussion and a series ofinvestigations, raises questions for the learners, including both theoretically propertyand operability. Second, compared the passive sentences with the unlabeled passivesentences. Then, combining with the error analysis, the omitted rules have beensystematically discussed from three parts: a. syntax, b. semantic, and c. pragmatics. On the one hand, the dissertation provides the theoretical foundation for the erroranalysis. On the other hand, the dissertation combines the theory with Chineseteaching. Therefore this dissertation not just inherits the predecessors’ excellentresults but also has its contributions. The main content of this dissertation has the following parts:1. The analysis of the bias error for the Chinese learner who is the native Englishspeaker using the BEI. Firstly, on the base of discussion and series ofinvestigations, and the questions raised form the learners, we found that themistakenly adding and omission occupy the highest in misusing of the BEI.Then, we identify four types of it: The mistakes caused by the omission ofBEI, overgeneralization of the passive label, and the wrong order of the words, pragmatic error. We put the reasons of the mistakes into analysis.2. Review of the previous usage of the BEI in the passive sentence. This part ismainly about the sentence structure, and the role of the word, and comparedwith the unmarked passive sentence.3. The appearance discipline of the BEI. This part mainly discussed theappearance discipline of the BEI from three parts: a. semantic, b. syntax, andc. pragmatics. The analysis of the part includes life degree and semantic color. The higher the life degree of the noun, the stronger the dominance of it,otherwise it becomes weak. So, when the subject of the sentence consist of theinanimate nouns, BEI can dispensable, when the life degree of N1greater thanthe N2, BEI can’t be eliminated, besides, the unmarked passive sentence aredifferent with the BEI sentence in the expressive functions, they are verycomplementary, the BEI sentence also express neutral and positive hues, theunmarked passive sentence are just the opposite. The analysis of the semantic includes the selection of the component and the sentence pattern. For example, the traditional structured cannot use BEI, the new structure like BEI+X mustuse BEI, moreover, we must use the unmarked passive sentence when inimperative sentences. The analysis of the pragmatics include the effect of thetext and the emphasize of the subject, so in the use of the passive sentence, weshould particular nevertheless case wants specific treat, select the events aswe needed.
