A Report On The Translation Of Guilin:A City Of Historical And Cultural Fame (Chapter1to7)

It is a matter of worldwide concern to protect and promote the history and culture of the cities. China is recognized by the entire world for her brilliant history and culture, and the cities of historical and cultural fame are a treasure of the Chinese nation. Guilin, a city of historical and cultural fame, is the third largest city in Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region, and is China’s most popular tourist destination. It also enjoys the reputation "Guilin’s scenery is the best among all under heaven". The translation of Guilin:A City of Historical and Cultural Fame, will undoubtedly play a significant part in the promotion, protection, and development of the famous city---Guilin.This paper selects a city of historical and cultural fame-----one of Lingnan culture education books as translation text analysis material. Through the CE translation project research, the translator, with knowledge of Guilin’s historical development, hopes to make contribution to the promotion, protection, and development of the famous city. What’s more, the translation ability is excised by applying the intercultural communication theory into practice. The paper is mainly about the translation strategies used in proper noun, poem and classical Chinese translation, and does empirical analysis on the book Guilin:A City of Historical and Cultural Fame by adopting the empirical analysis method. At last, I summarize some methods and skills of CE translation about a city’s culture and history development, therefore provide theatrical and practical significance for further translation of this kind of work.The main content of this report is divided into four parts:Part one is translation project description, including project background, objectives and significance. Part two is translation theory introduction, including the analysis about translation theory used in this text translation. Part three is about translation cases analysis and translation strategy analysis, including translation process of proper noun, poems and classical Chinese. Part four includes the lessons and implication in the translation project.
