The Avant-garde Writer Gefei And His Transformation

Gefei began to publish work in1986, then known instantly by make unremitting study on themes such as language,form, memory, Being and narrative, and became representative writer of the avant-garde which to reform the novel at contemporary together with Mayuan, Yuhua, Sutong et al. Also Gefei’s work shows the tendency of intellectual writing, it makes he become an independent school in the group of the avant-garde writers even and contemporary writers. However, get into90s,after publishing three novels and a series of short stories, Gefei’s creativity dwindled and remained silence for ten years during mid-90s to2004. But after this period he came back with a new transformation. The course of transformation is the focus of this paper.Based on research status of Gefei’s are mostly isolated, split and lack of systematic research, and the research purpose of this paper addition, This paper proposed to divide the Gefei’s creation into three periods,"the avant-garde’s period"(late80s to early90s),"the silent period"(mid90s to2004), and "the restart period"(2004to onwards) in which he transformed his work style and to rewrite with "jiangnan trilogy". Based on historical data and the text, use the theories of philosophy, psychology, sociology and narratology, to draw the outline of Gefei’s whole creation. Try to explains and describes the complex thoughts of Gefei and also point out that his creation is a kind of intellectual writing in essence. At the same time, made Gefei as an example, to present intellectuals dilemma which encountered during the period of social transformation, and ues the transformation of Gefei to explore the way to break this dilemma.This paper is divided into five parts:The introduction part introduces Gefei, his brief creation, Research status and explains the research significance of this paper, methods and contexts. The first chapter is "the avant-garde’s period" which defines the concepts of intellectuals and intellectual writings. Then, based on his personal life history and around why he writing and why he vanguard, to describe his early ideological conditions,and mainly to discusses the formation of his elite position and character. Finally, described the condition of his creation during this period from the point of view of creation, creation mentality, narrative logic and mode etc.The second chapter is "the silent period", which is focus of this paper. Starting from the background of times, to explore the predicament of the avant-garde literature and intellectuals in the times. Based on this, get into the writer/personally dilemma which he encountered. Describes the contradiction and complex connection behind his thoughts, ideas and values and explore the deep reason of why he sank into silence. Take the reconstruction of the value system and ego as the main line, describe his efforts to break silence.The third chapter is "the restarting period" which aims to describe Gefei’s recreative conditions after his writing and aesthetic orientation, motivation, subject consciousness and so on all have been changed. The core is his concept of "wholeness" and return to the text, to explore the similarities and differences between his reflection and creation.The last part is the conclusion, which make a summary of this paper based on two basic concept Literature and Tradition. Then investigates the significance of Gefei’s transformation and his success or failure from the whole horizon according to the present literature.
