| The deepening trend of globalization has given rise to closer relationships between countries in the world and increasingly frequent cross-cultural and cross-national exchanges. China has always attached great importance to relations with African countries with ever-increasing aids of various kinds to those countries, among which there is the talents training. The Seminar on Reconstructing Governance for Kenyan Civil Servants in2013(hereinafter as the Seminar) was authorized by the Ministry of Commerce of the People’s Republic of China and held by Chinese Academy of Governance. The Seminar aims to give a general introduction to China’s political, economic and social development as well as government management, thus expanding the mutual understanding and communication between the two countries.The author provided interpreting services for the Kenyan delegation’s visit and exchanges in Nanjing in November,2013. First, the author provided liaison interpreting for the Kenyan delegation and staff members of the Nanjing Government Affairs Service Center. Second, the author provided conference interpreting (CI) for the Principal and Professor of Jiangsu Academy of Governance. Third, the author provided CI for the closing ceremony of the Seminar. Although both the delegation and host gave their thanks and appreciation for the author’s services, the author encountered some difficulties in the three interpreting tasks.In this project report, the author analyzes the problems and difficulties encountered during the interpreting process, they are:inadequate preparation, terminology, accent, and situational variables. Follow-up specific solutions are given by the author based on his daily learning experience. The author hopes that the related prolonged problems and defects can be resolved through in-depth analysis, therefore implementing tailored training which could facilitate subsequent interpreting efforts. |
