| This is a translation project report on the Jiangsu Province Yearbook2012, of which the agriculture part is the source text. Jiangsu Province Yearbook2012has recorded the brilliant achievements in Jiangsu’s endeavors for reform, development, opening-up and modernization in a comprehensive and systematic fashion. As a large province on the east coast of China, Jiangsu province has established a wide-range exchange and cooperative relationship with many countries and regions, which makes the translation of Jiangsu Province Yearbook2012become necessary for foreigners’ study and understanding of Jiangsu. The source text introduces to us the status quo of agricultural development of Jiangsu province and the achievements having accomplished in2011. The report consists of four chapters. Chapter One is the introduction part, including research background, project objectives, and the structure and emphasis of this report. Chapter Two is project survey, made up of project background, source text analysis, resource arrangement and schedule and process of this project. This part mainly talks about the stylistic features and linguistic features of source text and the preparation work before translation. Chapter Three, an analysis of translation techniques involved in the project, focuses on the difficulties and methods adopted in the translation process through specific examples, such as the translation of agriculture terminologies, culture-loaded words, data, and complex sentences. Chapter Four summarizes the experience, lessons gained by the translator and insufficiencies that should be made up in the future. As the report reveals, since the source text is informative text, the translation is required to conform to the target readers’ reading habits and meet the objective of delivering information. It is hoped that this report offers some referential value for translation of texts of similar types. |
