A Project Report On The C-E Translation Of Chapters 12,14 And 15 Of Jiangsu Province Yearbook 2018

This is a project report on C-E translation of Chapter 12(Ecological Environment),Chapter 14(Science and Technology)and Chapter 15(Education)excerpted from Jiangsu Province Yearbook 2018.The yearbook records a series of achievements Jiangsu has made in economy,industry,agriculture,energy,transportation,education,science and technology,culture and etc,which comprehensively and systematically reflects social and economic progress of the province in 2017.Against the background of China's comprehensively deepening reform and the "Belt and Road" Initiative,Jiangsu,lying on the east coast of China,has been closely connected with the international community.Therefore the province organized the translation work of Jiangsu Province Yearbook to provide an important channel for people overseas to better understand JiangsuThe author analyzed stylistic and linguistic features of the source text and summarized major difficulties in the process of translation.Difficulties at lexical levels include translation of culture-loaded words,Chinese specific expressions and terminology.Difficulties at syntactic levels lie in parallel sentences,non-subject sentences and long and complicated sentences.Detailed analysis of causes of those difficulties is also given from cultural and linguistic perspectives.Under the guidance of Skopos theory the author proposed some translation techniques at lexical level including translation with annotation,paraphrasing and consulting reference.Methods of addition,transformation into passive voice,conversion of part of speech and sentence structure and division are employed to tackle difficulties at syntactic level The author analyzed exemplary cases to demonstrate the validity of those methods The report is expected to provide reference for future translation practice of the same kind.
