This is a project report on C-E translation of Chapter 14(Science and Technology)and the first part of Chapter 15(Education)excerpted from Jiangsu Province Yearbook 2016,which comprehensively and systematically reflects the social development situation of Jiangsu province in 2015 as well as the remarkable achievements that have accomplished in economy,agriculture,foreign trade,science and technology,education,culture and social security,etc.Against the overall background of China's comprehensively deepening reform and the "Belt and Road" Initiative,as a large and important province situated along the east coast of China,Jiangsu has made an increasingly frequent exchanges with international community.Therefore,Jiangsu Province Yearbook has become an important window for foreigners to get an all-round understanding of Jiangsu province,making its C-E translation extremely necessary.Based on the analysis of the textual features,the author summarizes the major issues and difficulties in the translation process,including the translation of numeral-phrase abbreviations,terminologies,and new words with Chinese characteristics at lexical level;the handling of non-subject sentences,duplicate predicate sentences and long difficult sentences at syntactic level and how to achieve cohesion and coherence at textual level.The focus of this report aims to solve these problems.Through this translation practice,the author summarizes several translation methods.It is hoped that this project report will offer some referential value for the translation of relevant texts in the future.
