A Project Report On The C-E Translation Of Chapter 19 And Chapter 23 Of Jiangsu Province Yearbook 2018

Jiangsu Province Yearbook 2018 comprehensively and systematically records the achievements in reform and opening up as well as modernization of Jiangsu Province in2017,and describes the annual situation of natural,political,economic,cultural,social and ecological construction of Jiangsu Province in 2017.As a major province on the east coast of China,Jiangsu has established extensive exchanges and cooperative relations with many other countries and regions.Therefore,as the comprehensive local yearbook of government publications,the English version of Jiangsu Province Yearbook 2018 is particularly necessary for foreigners to learn and understand Jiangsu.This paper is a C-E translation project report based on the author's translation practice,and the source text is Chapter 19 Sports and Chapter 23 Public Safety of Jiangsu Province Yearbook 2018.Due to the linguistic and cultural differences between Chinese and English,the author encounters some difficulties in the translation process,and analyzes them from the aspects of vocabulary and syntax.In view of the translation difficulties,the author puts forward corresponding solutions and makes case analysis.In terms of the translation of terminologies,expressions with Chinese characteristics and numeral abbreviations at the lexical level,the methods of literal translation,free translation,literal translation with annotation and interpreting translation are adopted to solve the problems.For the translation of the null-subject sentences,parallelism sentences as well as long and difficult sentences,the author adopts the methods of addition,conversion,division and omission.Finally,the author summarizes the gains and the shortcomings.The yearbook is an informative text,so the translation must conform to the readers' reading habits on the basis of faithfulness to the original text.The author looks forward to providing some references in the translation of similar texts.
