A Project Report On The English Translation Of The Urban And Rural Development Part Of Jiangsu Province Yearbook 2016

In response to the strategy of "going global",Jiangsu has attached increasing importance to the translation of local yearbooks.Since 2012,the Local Annals Editorial Committee of Jiangsu Province has started to compile the English edition of Jiangsu Province Yearbook.The project report is based on the author's practical experience in translating Jiangsu Province Yearbook 2016.And the source text is selected from the part of urban and rural development.The report introduces the background,content,structure and significance of the project,analyzes the linguistic and stylistic features of the source text,expounds the requirements of the initiator,and describes three phases of preparation,translation and proofreading.Based on the translation practice,the report discusses the difficulties in translating abbreviations,parallelism and long Chinese sentences.In the case studies guided by the principles of skopos theory,literal translation with annotation,combination and paraphrase are used to translate abbreviations without prejudice to their original forms;linear translation,omission and conversion are used to deal with parallel modifiers and parallel sentences respectively;and linear translation,division and inverse translation are used to adjust or restructure long Chinese sentences.Finally,some suggestions are put forward.It is hoped that the report can serve as a reference to the compilation of Jiangsu Province Yearbook(English Edition).
