On The Application Of Project Management In Interpretation

This article discusses how project management can be applied to the practice of interpretation, so as to improve the efficiency and quality of interpreting activities through the modularized and systematic theory of project management. As the advancing of globalization in China, the interpretation market shows higher demand on the quality and processing capacity of interpretation service including, but not limited to, interpretation service scale, interpretation procedure, interpretation quality and follow-up and feedback management. To deal with today’s interpretation activities, especially large-scale events, interpreters need to be equipped with not only interpretation skills, but also necessary management ability and other competence to handle greater complexity. Therefore, the already well-shaped framework of project management comprising requirement analysis, planning, team building, and a series of management such as expense, time, quality, communication, and risk management, as well as project closing steps has been proven both theoretically and practically applicable to interpretation projects. By employing the method of project management, interpretation that has long been thought of as a short-term and one-time activity can proceed systematically and rationally. The success of an interpretation project is decided by a series of standardized mechanism and evaluation methods which guarantee the efficiency and quality of interpretation service as well as in-time feedback and evaluation and furthermore the long-term development of interpretation service.
