Interpreting Project Manager Internship Report Of 2015 American Principals Of The Year's China Talk

2015 Great Leader Summit American Principals of the Year's China Talk(Guangzhou Stop) was held from 15 th to 16 th, July, during which the author was invited to work for this event. In this activity, the author took the role of project manager(PM) for the fulfillment of the interpreting project, while at the same time served as both a translator and an interpreter.From the perspective of a PM, this thesis is based on the experience and documents of the whole process of the project, namely, pre-, mid- and after-interpreting phase. Specifically speaking, the pre-interpreting phase includes the initiating and the planning stages of the project. In the initiating stage, the author conducted both need and feasibility analysis and contacted with the organizers in advance. Upon confirmation of the project feasibility, the author drafted an action plan, contacted with the interpreters and listed emergency precautions in the planning stage. Mid-interpreting phase mainly refers to the execution and the monitoring of the project. During this phase, the author prepared a glossary and allocated interpreters to their respective sites. Moreover, the author monitored interpreting quality of the project. During the after-interpreting phase, the author completed remuneration payment to the interpreters, client satisfaction survey as well as project reflection. In addition to the description of these stages, some emergencies and their solutions and optimization measures are also included.It is one of the most important responsibilities for a PM to evaluate the project he or she is in charge of. In this project, the author evaluates the project from three anglesproject execution, team work and client satisfaction. In particular, project execution evaluation is, in fact, the evaluation of the interpreters' performances. In this thesis, Cai Xiaohong's quality evaluation model was applied to evaluate interpreting quality of the project.As it is the first time to work as a PM for an interpreting event, the author learnt about both interpreting event and quality assessment. The event improves the author's ability in project management, interpersonal communication and emergency countermeasures. Moreover, as the author completes the project, she enhanced her confidence and enriched her professional experience. This event also provided a good opportunity for the author to have a close observation of the interpreter's work, which gave her insights on her career planning in the future.
