When it comes to intercultural communication status of Chinese cinema, Jia Zhangke is worthystudying. As the leading figure of the "sixth generation" movement of Chinese cinema, this young director won lots of foreign film awards, he gains a high degree of fame and recognition abroad, and accepted and welcomed by people who are from different cultural backgrounds. His films always seem to have a "quality" that can transcend cultural barriers to successfully convey information and express emotions. This thesis tries to find the constituent elements of this "quality" by analyzing and interpreting his films, and combined with the interc ultural communication ability theory, to explore the regular patterns and methods of intercultural communication in the film industry. Then it summarizes several specific strategies and recommendations for Chinese film industry in this intercultural communication predicament.This thesis is organized into five parts. The first part is an introduction, which introduces the research background, research methods, the research Status as well as the research innovation. Then there is an overview of the research subject-Jia Zhangke and his directing experience, and analyzes the intercultural communication effect of Jia’s fiction films. In the third part-the systematic interpretation, the regular patterns and techniques of intercultural communication in Jia’s films are analyzed. In addition, this thesis extends the research to the Chinese film industry, and discusses the intercultural communication status of Chinese film industry. In the end, the main points of this thesis are summarized as a conclusion.
