Research On The Acceptance Of Foreign Student About Chinese Net Speak

Along with the development of China and the widespread Internet service, the popularity of net speak has resulted in a drastic increase. As we all known, besides being a linguistic phenomenon, net speak is also a kind of social phenomenon which represents nowadays Chinese culture. It reports the changes of Chinese society and the outlook of Chinese values. The booming development Chinese net speak somehow affected foreign student who came to China in their learning process and daily life as well. The main purpose of this case study is to study about the acceptance and acknowledgement of foreign student against the Chinese net speaks. After having a questionnaire research on these foreign students, we are aware of their opinion about the Chinese net speak. Foreign students’ reliance upon Chinese network service is high, where44%of them know the latest Chinese internet slang words,56%of them think these words are acceptable and44%of them are willing to use these words while communicating with others. Based on the data collected and specific analysis on the data, this thesis proposes some suggestions on how to react to the impact of Chinese net speak. For example, the vitality of Chinese net speaks helps a lot in adapting into Chinese culture. However, these net speak should not be contained in a proper language textbooks for Chinese teaching. Meanwhile, Chinese teacher should prepare themselves to be able to explain these words if the students are interested, and perhaps an elective class can be set up for higher level student.
