As a crucial factor, the long sentences interpreting always affects the interpretationquality of political work report. This paper is a practice report on the task which is tointerpret the Government Work Report2013by listening to the audio of the report. Thepaper introduces the process of the interpreting task, lists the characteristics of the longsentences in the report and provides solutions to the long sentence interpreting. It alsoanalyzes various possible problems in interpreting long sentences through whichsummarize practical experiences and interpreting strategies. By analyzing theinterpreting practice, this paper expects to provide some references to political workreport interpreting.This paper consists of four parts. I. Introduction to the interpreting task;II.Interpreting process; III. Problems and solutions; IV. Summarization of thisinterpreting practice. Part1introduces the interpreting materials and the background ofthe materials. Part2explains the three stages of accomplishing this task, namelypre-interpreting preparation, interpreting,and post-interpreting sorting and reflection.The pre-interpreting preparation includes early stage preparation and on-the-spotpreparation. Interpreting procedure is introduced in detail. Post-interpreting focuses onsorting the audio and texts used in the interpreting task. Part3introduces in detail fivesolution to some common problems encountered in long sentence interpreting, focusingon strategies on how to deal with complicated long sentences and sentences withmultiple sense groups. Part4concludes how pre-interpreting preparation, theme of aninterpreting task influences the interpreting quality. The limitation of this interpretingpractice is also analyzed in this part.On the basis of analyzing this interpreting practice, the paper summarizes somestrategies on how to deal with long sentences while interpreting political documents, andverifies the feasibility of these interpreting strategies applying to such type of texts. Thepaper also demonstrates the practical experience drawn from this interpreting task.
