The original English texts in this translation practice report, written by SusanBassnett who is famous in translation, are taken from Reflections on Translation(Chapter7to10), which are translated into12000Chinese words. The book is acollection of39short essays published in ITI Bulletin and The Linguist, written bySusan Bassnett, spanning the decade between2000and2010. The four chaptersselected by the author are essays respectively on the theme of “under the influence”、“reference point”、“translation or adaptation” and “translating style”.As the original texts are the journalistic articles, classified as informative texts, the translating process is under the guidance of the famous British translation theoristPeter Newmark’s text typology and translation methods. On the basis of translatingpractice, the author gives a detailed analysis of translating process and attaches greatimportance to poetry translation, long sentence translation and the application ofChinese four—character idioms. The author also finds that the original texts featuredby common expressions, detailed exemplifications and many poems; and the differenttranslation methods are needed to apply to poetry translation and long sentencetranslation during the translating process.Through the translation practice, the author draws conclusions that different texttypes determine the different translation strategies. Translators need to attach greatimportance to the differences between English and Chinese and translation techniques, while having a solid language foundation. Translators also need to strive forexcellence and keep a good attitude.Hope this translation report could provide some referential value and help fortranslators who translate the similar type texts.
