Strategies For Cultural Shock Of Chinese Teachers In Thailand

In recent years，with the support of Thai princess in Chinese, the career ofChinese in Thailand develops rapidly. More and more Chinese volunteer teacherswere sent to Thailand by China. However, the volunteer teachers were facing cultureswhich differ from theirs. Every nation has its unique history, local conditions,customs and cultures, etc. The customs and culture were showed naturally whencommunicate with the people of all nationalities. When communicate with the peopleof different cultural background the first time, people often show kinds ofmaladaptation which is caused by the differences and conflicts in culture, thecross-cultural communication can’t be proceeded normally by this maladaptation.Even it will lead to the culture shock and produce a lot of unhappiness andmisunderstanding finally. For volunteer teachers, these differences will affect theirwork and daily life. How to help Volunteer teachers to recognize cultural differencesas well as how to adjust and overcome actively, hence improve consciousness ofcross-cultural communication and make Chinese teachers work smoothly become thekey of spreading the Chinese culture better. This article takes the cross-culturalcommunication between China and Thailand as an example, and it is analyzed fromthe perspective of Chinese volunteer teachers. It is divided into four parts altogether.The first part mainly discusses the research significance background and necessity ofthe cross-cultural culture shock. The second part mainly discusses the culturaldifferences between China and Thailand, respectively from the two big aspects ofetiquette and custom habits differences. The third part mainly elaborates the severalstages of cultural adaptation and self adjustment in the process of cross-culturalcommunication. In the last part of this paper, It puts forward the strategies of cultureshock leaded by cross-cultural differences between China and Thailand.
