Study On Wang Anshi’s "the New Meanings Of Book Of Songs"

The general characteristics of Classical Scholarism in the Song Dynasty shows the breakthroughand the sublation of traditional sinology. The same is true that the studies on “the Book of Songs” in SongDynasty as part of the Song Dynasty’s Classical Scholarism. The North Song Dynasty, a period inheritingthe past and the future, was the watershed of Han-learning study and Song-learning study on “the Book ofSongs”. In this period, Wang Anshi made an outstanding contribution to the transformation of the study of“the Book of Songs” from as the study of the book of songs from the Han-learning study to Song-learningstudy.“The New Meanings of Book of Songs”, that was hosted and participated in compiled by WangAnshi, also created the work for the political function playing and the connotation interpretation of “theBook of Songs”, and therefore influenced the direction of “the Book of Songs” research in the whole SongDynasty.On the basis of previous studies, this paper makes a detailed analysis and research on “The NewMeanings of Book of Songs”, and then discusses the thought of “The Book of Songs” learning andunderstanding feature on “Poem” of Wang Anshi, so as to investigate the influence of Wang Anshi’s “TheBook of Songs” learning on the study of “The Book of Songs” learning in Song Dynasty as well as theliterary creation of their own. In this paper, the text is divided into five chapters:The first chapter mainly introduces the general situation of “The New Meanings of Book ofSongs”. Firstly, it narrates the historical background, creation motivation and compilation condition of“The New Meanings of Book of Songs”, proves that “The New Meanings of Book of Songs” was written atthe request of times and reflected the thought of Wang Anshi on “the Book of Songs”. Secondly, this paperexplains the processes of scattering and disappearing and the compiling, editing and scattering results of“the Book of Songs”, thus, from this research process to show close relationship between the fate of “TheNew Meanings of Book of Songs” and the political fate of Wang Anshi, from the compiling, editing andscattering results to illustrate the current appearance of “The New Meaning of Book of Songs”.The second chapter mainly analyses the attitude of Wang Anshi on the basic issues of “the Bookof Songs” learning. Firstly, it summarizes the basic features of Wang Anshi’s thought on “the Book of Songs” learning from the discusses about a series of issues, such as “the Poetry Preface”,“Feng yasong”,“Fifteen Huai Sorting”,“Er Nan”,“Er Ya”,”Lu Songs” and “Zhou Songs”. Secondly, it alsoexamines the basis, breach and trade-off of Wang Anshi about the "Mao Biography”,“Zheng’sCommentary”,“Kong’s annotation”, and from these we can find the tendency of “the Book of Songs”learning of Wang Anshi to the inheritance of “the Book of Songs” sinology and its further study in the SongDynasty.The third chapter mainly studies the interpreting characteristics of “The New Meanings of theBook of Songs”. Wang Anshi’s annotation for “the Book of Songs” appeared the interpreting characteristicsof explanation of ancient words, using “Rite” to explain “Poem”, using “Poem” to explain “Poem”,“understanding by heart”, quoting books to annotate “Poem”, etc., not only with the time features of the“Book of Songs” learning in the transitional period from Han Dynasty to Song Dynasty, but also rich in itsdistinctive personal style.The fourth chapter mainly discusses the ideological connotation of “The New Meanings of theBook of Songs”. For the first, it discussed the mandate of heaven thought of Wang Anshi reflected in “TheNew Meanings of the Book of Songs”. Secondly, it discussed Wang Anshi’s ethical thought reflected in“The New Meanings of the Book of Songs” from two aspects of theory of human nature and the theoryof accomplishments. Finally, it discussed the political thought of Wang Anshi in “The New Meanings of theBook of Songs”.The fifth chapter mainly summarizes the historical position and the influence of “the Book ofSongs” learning and “the New Meanings of the Book of Songs” of Wang Anshi. First this paper discussesthe influence of “the New Meanings of the Book of Songs” on the imperial examinations and the learningstyle in the whole Song Dynasty. Secondly, it discusses the influence of Wang Anshi’s “the Book of Songs”learning on the New Theory and other Theory study on “the Book of Songs”. Finally, it discusses theeffects of “the Book of Songs” learning of Wang Anshi on his own poetry writing.This paper, through the systemic research on “the New Meanings of the Book of Songs”, deeplydig into the thoughts on “the Book of Songs” learning, and the interpreting characteristics, so as to totallyrevealing the influence of Wang Anshi’s “the Book of Songs” learning on various aspects relevant, and thevalues of “the New Meanings of the Book of Songs” for the history of “the Book of Songs” learning in Song Dynasty and even the whole history of “the Book of Songs”.
