| This paper is based on The Modern Chinese Dictionary (Sixth Edition).674groups of words of allotropy are studied in this paper to explore the synchroniccharacteristics of the words of allotropy on Modern Chinese. Besides, The ModernChinese Dictionary of the second edition has also been considered as thesupplementary material, from which413groups of words of allotropy are studiedto research their law of development, in order to undertake the comprehensiveanalysis on the current status and the development of the words of allotropy.The introduction part of this paper states the current status of the study onwords of allotropy in Modern Chinese, and gives the definition of words ofallotropy. It also gives the research object and the research content, which is theresearch on words of allotropy on both synchronic and diachronic sides.Chapter I, II, and III introduces the study in synchronic side, which explainand explore the words of allotropy in part of speech, meaning and word-buildingand comes to the conclusion through description of the picked material. In thewords of allotropy in Modern Chinese, the two mutual nouns of allotropy are in adominant position. The most common words are the two mutual words of allotropywith different meanings, in which the two words of totally different meanings arein the majority. Those words of which the two words with the same word formationand also the joint formation are the most. Besides, this paper also explores thecauses of the formation of these rules, including different aspects of the factorssuch as the rules of the words and the influence of the dialects.Chapter IV is the study of the words of allotropy in diachronic side, whichcomes up with the development rules of the words of allotropy in Modern Chinesein nearly thirty years by analyzing and comparing these words. It has also foundthat words of allotropy in Modern Chinese have strong vitality and derivativeability.Through the research above, we have a basic understanding on the currentstatus and the development of the words of allotropy in Modern Chinese, as well assome rules. I hope it can play a positive role in the future study. |
