Successful everyday functioning requires balancing two opposing needs:maintaining the current goal to avoid distraction and flexibly shifting from one goal to another. Although ever-changing environments require constant adjustments between these opposing needs, individuals differ in the degree to which their mental balance the two needs. As a result, what the effect of the trait of rumination on these two tasks? And how the trait of rumination response to the positive and negative mood?This research use the research of cognitive flexibility and the negative emotion priming task to explore the relationship between the trait of rumination and cognitive flexibility and emotion inhibition of high school students. Before the formal research,150students finished the Rumination Response Scale and the Beck Depression Inventory. According to the scores,30of them were chose to participate the letter-naming task、modified stroop task and negative affective priming task.The results showed that:(1) On task emphasized cognitive flexibility, the accuracy of lower ruminative tendencies is higher than that of the trait of rumination. Rumination is not benefit to goal-shift task.(2) On task emphasized cognitive inflexibility, the accuracy of the trait of rumination is higher than that of lower ruminative tendencies. The reaction time of the trait of rumination is lower than that of lower ruminative tendencies. Rumination is good for goal-maintain task.(3) There was no same conclusion of the relationship between the trait of rumination and the emotion inhibition.The current study was not only discussed the relationship between the trait of rumination and the cognitive flexibility、emotion inhibition, but also enriched the studies on rumination at home, especially about the middle school students. Present study gave a basis for improving the ability of students’ cognitive flexibility and emotion inhibition.
