Study On The Relationship Between The Self-esteem And The Parental Rearing, Coping Style For The Children Of Migrant Workers And The City Residents’ Children

With the development of city urbanization in China，a large number of migrantworkers come into the cities. Paying attention to the children of this special group, canpromote the harmonious development of society.Teenage is the key and rapid development period of one’s values outlookformation. Through the comparative study of migrant workers’ children and cityresidents’ children, can help to understand the current situation of the self-esteem,parental rearing patterns and coping styles of the migrant workers’ children in juniormiddle school，and the difference between the migrant workers’ children and the city’residents. Based on these we can form the mental health strategy for the children ofmigrant workers，enhance their social adaptability, and promote the healthydevelopment of their psychological quality.In this study, total of927students are chosen to be the object of this study, andthey are from three, public and full-time junior middle schools located in XuhuiDistrict. Through the questionnaire survey and data analysis, the conclusions are asfollows:1.Signiifcant difference on the self-esteem level difference between the migrantworkers’ children and the city residents’ children. Among them, in the socialself-esteem, behavior self-respect and sports self-esteem, migrant ’workers child’rensscores are significantly higher than that of city residents’ children. But in theacademic self-esteem, general self-esteem and appearance self-esteem, the differencesare not obvious.2.Thegender differences are signiifcantly for the migrant workers’ children inappearance self-esteem and sports self-esteem, the scores of boys are all significantlyhigher than the girls’. And in the while，for the city residents’ children, only inappearance self-esteem, the score of boys is signiifcantly higher than the girls’.Thereare no differences in any self-esteem for the migrant workers’ children no matterwhich grade they are. But for the city residents’ children, if they are in differentgrades, the signiifcant differences are existed in academic self-esteem, self-esteem,appearance self-esteem and sports self-esteem.3.Thereare differences in parental rearing styles between the migrant workers’children and the city resident’s children. Among these, the father’s emotional warmthand understanding are obvious. The scores of the migrant workers’ children aresignificantly lower than the city residents’ children; and it is the same for them in thefather’s preference loving, mother’s emotional warmth understanding’, and mothers preference loving. But in the mother’s severe punishment, the scores of the migrantworkers’ children are significantly higher than the city residents’ children.4.Thereare differences in positive coping styles between the migrant workers’children and city residents’. But in the negative coping styles, the gap is large, thescore of the migrant workers’ children is significantly lower than the city residents’children. There are no obvious differences in positive coping styles for the migrantworkers’ children no matter which grade they are，but there are obvious differences innegative coping styles for them in different grades. And for the city residents’children，if they are in different grades, the differences in positive coping style andnegative coping style are all signiifcant.5.Forthe migrant ’workers children and city residents’ children, it’s the samethat the certain degree of correlation is existed mutually in self-esteem, parentalrearing patterns and coping style.6.Theself-esteem of the migrant workers’ children plays any intermediary roleaction in the prediction process of the positive parental rearing style to positive copingstyle, and the self-esteem of the city residents’ children does not exist. Theself-esteem of the city residents’ children plays any intermediary role action in theprediction process of the negative parental rearing style to the negative coping style,and the self-esteem of the migrant workers’ children does not exist.
