A Discussion On The Phenomenon Of Litterateur’s "advocating Tao" In Yuan Dynasty

Compared to other dynasties, the research field of poetics in YuanDynasty had won less attention than it deserves. If occasionallyreferenced, negative attitude prevails. Mr. Guo Shaoyu states, in hisHistory of Chinese Literary Criticism, Setion One, there is no uniqueaspect of Yuan Dynasty literature. Yet the truth is that there are abundantadvisable resources and merits in poetics of Yuan Dynasty. The YuanDynasty literati lived in a more chaotic period. Before Yuan Dynasty,there is confusion between four nations; in the latter of Yuan Dynasty,there is the confused fighting between Zhu Yuanzhang, Chen Youliangand authorities. Since the Yuan Dynasty was established by the nationalminority as unified regime loyalists, the social atmosphere was filled withthe national feelings. Scholars in this environment, the mind will havespecial; the perspective and method are also different with the past. Basedon these unique characteristics, this paper is aimed to research the on thephenomenon in Yuan Dynasty "Advocating Tao", who was an importantpoet in the past dynasty. The writer study the cultural phenomenon andfind out the reasons for this special phenomenon.The present research on the comprehension of Tao Yuanming mainlyconcentrated in the Song, Ming and Qing Dynasties. However, the YuanDynasty outstanding "Advocating Tao" phenomenon has been studied few.In fact, the phenomenon and origins of "Adcocating Tao" in YuanDynasty have much research value, which not only can fill the vacancy inthe history, but also reflects the aesthetic trend and the characteristics ofcomments in the Yuan Dynasty. Therefore the research also contribute to the study of the Poetics in Yuan.This paper is divided into three parts. The first part studiesphenomenon of "Adcocating Tao", which is based on Tao Yuanming’spoems, quotations and imitations by others. The second part is theanalysis on the Yuan Dynasty "Advocating Tao" feature, having focuson abundance of the phenomenon and Tao image recognition of TaoYuanming. The third part analyzes the Yuan Dynasty "Advocating Tao"phenomenon. First of all, this is the result of the special socialenvironment in the Yuan Dynasty. The Yuan Dynasty rulers payinsufficient attention to writers, the literati had no way to be an official.So they had to focus on their own, and in this way Tao Yuanming’sadaptive attitude get scholars find a way to pursue. Secondly, Taoism inYuan Dynasty developed, people and the literati of Daoism are close, andsome religious thought fit Tao Yuanming’s. Thirdly, the literary stylechanged, from imitation to natural temperament, whose characters agreeto Tao Yuanming’s work. Finally, the Yuan believe that the mostimportant reason of the hermitage of Tao Yuanming is that he refused toofficial in Liu and Song. This sentiment integrity precisely meet thepsychological of literati under the alien rule of Yuan dynasty. They areadmiring the spirit of Tao Yuanming.By studying the phenomenon of "Adcocating Tao", in Yuan dynasty,we can understand the Yuan is quite seriously for Tao Yuanming, which isthe fundamental to the scholars to comprehend the Tao yuanming in Mingand Qing dynasties.
