| This project report is about the translation of the tenancy agreement between Hong Kong Arracourt Ltd. and Qilu International Holdings Ltd. Taken from the translation of a translation company which the translator works for part-time, the material is about11000words with English as source language and Chinese as target language. Totally, the translator spends11days to deliver the translation.As tenancy agreement is a legal text that belongs to non-literary text, the report records and analyzes the whole project from the perspective of legal text translation, and puts forward the priority of legal text translation, that is to faithfully convey legal information, guarantee the accuracy and integrity of legal texts and highlight the solemnity and rigor of law. Above all, it aims to urge both parties to preserve the dignity and sublimity of law.This report mainly covers three aspects:pre-analysis and preparation, translation management as well as post-translation, which are different but closely related with each other. Meanwhile, cases with distinct features are analyzed at length from the perspective of lexical and syntactic translation in the chapter of "Case Studies". The difficulties of the report lie in the translation of synonyms used in conjunction, modal auxiliaries and long sentences.The author holds the point that the research of abundant parallel texts before translation is an indispensable step of outputting excellent target text. Moreover, it is key to maintain translation quality via careful pre-analysis and proofreading, as well as by avoiding traps in legal document translation. |
