As the New Curriculum Standard was promulgated, the educational reform of our country is more and more mature. The new English Curriculum Standard had a more specific rule and guidance for high school students’ English skills. However, English writing generally has been neglected and ignored in the teaching field for a long time. Generally, composition is finished after class and the teacher hasn’t systematic and complete teaching plan. When explaining the composition, teachers only give the answer of the writing and show the common mistakes. This kind of teaching method makes students lack the interests of writing. Cooperative learning strategy reflects the dominant position of the students fully and strengthens the teacher-student, student-student interaction and communication. Students can study by group discussion, group cooperation, group exploration, group presentation and group evaluation. Rewarding group members can arouse the enthusiasm of students. Cooperative learning is not only conductive to develop the students’creative consciousness and ability, but also can promote the harmonious development of students.Cooperative learning has been deepening in the classroom as a new teaching mode. Compared with the traditional teaching method, it can stimulate the enthusiasm of students and improve students’ writing ability. Combining the domestic and foreign researches on cooperative learning, based on Humanism, Social Psychology, Constructivism and Motivation Theory, the writer found that cooperative learning is more suitable for our students.Therefore, the students of two classes of Grade One in Dalian Information High School were selected as the research subjects, of which Class1Grade1was the experimental class and Class2Grade1was the control class. The pretest data of two classes showed there was almost no difference in students’ English writing ability. In the experiment, the writer carried on the teaching English writing using cooperative learning strategy and for a semester, the composition marks in the experimental class is higher than that in the control class. The students can write the English composition actively. The results of the experiment and the analysis of the data showed the following:cooperative learning can not only effectively stimulate students’ interest in writing it can also improve students’ writing ability.However, in spite of gaining the expected results, there still exist some problems in the research due to the limitation of objective factors. So the writer will continuously improve and perfect the writing teaching in the future and hope this research can lay a good foundation for further research on this topic.
