A Project Report On The Translation Of B-29New Script

This paper is a project report on the translation of the new script of the movie B-29. The translated English version (hereafter referred as target text) has been adopted by the Nanning Tiexue Kunlun Pictures Corp. Ltd. and the Thunder Road Corporation to coproduce a Hollywood movie. The translation work plays an important role in the process of introducing this movie to the American filmmaker. The author chooses this project out of three reasons. Firstly, movie script translation is a new field to the author and such a text type is representative. Secondly, to cooperate directly with companies gives the author a chance to experience and adapt to the real translation market. Lastly, to coproduce movie with American filmmaker is a new model for Chinese movie development, in which translation plays an important role.The source text adopted in this repot is definitely different either in content or theme from the old edition of the B-29, on which a project report was written by Miss Wang Hongmei last year. The theme of the old script is about Anti-Japanese War and patriot while the new script pays more attention to the love romance and international theme. This report mainly focuses on translation of the international elements of the movie in this new project.The report consists of five parts. Part one introduces what is the project about. Part two is a pre-translation analysis and preparation, in which the author lists the theories and methods used in the translation, as well as the tools prepared in the pre-translation stage. Part three is translation procedures and schedules. Part four is cases study. Representative cases are discussed and analyzed in this part. Part five is a summary of the report.In the report, the author, through describing the translation practice, summarized the translation theories and strategies that used in the translation and proposed some suggestions on the translation of movie script. The author also pointed out some limitations in this project, hoping to get advices from senior fellows and teachers.
