Interpretation Of The Dunhuang Manuscripts Of Fanwang Jing And Repertoire Of The Folk Characters In Fanwang Jing

The full name of Fanwang Jing (Brahmajala Sutra) is Fanwang Jing Lushenafo Shuo Pusa Xindijiepin Dishi(梵网经卢舍那佛说菩萨心地�'品第十),and it is also known as Fanwang Jing pusa Xindijiepin(梵网经菩萨心地品).The sutra is traditionally regarded as having been recorded in Sanskrit and then translated by Kumarajiva.The name of Fanwang Jing was first seen in the book of Bo Luoti Mucha Postscript,and now it is included in the volume24of Legal Department Tripitaka.This paper has carried on the comprehensive survey of all the Dunhuang manuscripts which have been publishe,and found that there are317pieces of Fanwang jing.Most of these manuscripts are the early Tang dynasty to Rebel period (i.e,7-10century) manuscripts,which retained a large number of the folk characters and recorded the basic situation of the use of these folk characters. But it has not been someone that was conducted for the study of the language researchuThe paper researches on the folk characters involved in Dunhuang Manuscripts of Fanwang Jing on the basis of collating of the information and writing catalogue for each manuscript.This paper is divided into two series,the first series include three chapters.Chapter one:It is an introduction,which respectively introduced the research value of Fanwang Jing manuscripts in three aspects-origin,interpretation,the condition of the manuscripts,studies on the status of Fanwang Jing and research methods and other aspects.Chapter two:This chapter composed the descriptive catalogue of the existing317pieces of manuscripts in order to state the case of these manuscripts,which describe the title of the manuscripts,the handwriting fonts, and the beginning and ending in the Tripitaka. Chapter three:It is about the fragments conjugation and the name.As most of the manuscripts are fragments. we have found96fragments can be conjugated, so we use the image processing technology to restore the original appearance.Meanwhile we firstly named the Volumes after Volume11of Dunhuang Manuscripts Collected in the St. Petersburg Institute of Oriental Studies of the Academy of Sciences of Russia.Finally, the conclusion conducted a systematic summarize the paper.The second series is the folk characters table of Fanwang Jing manuscripts,which made a systematically material through to the comprehensive survey.
