A Report On E-C Translation Of Creative Industries As A Flywheel

This thesis is a report on translation of Creative Industries as a Flywheel, a research report on Netherland’s creative industry by Creative Amsterdam for a study of economic and social contribution the creative industry makes to. The chapter2and3of Creative Industries as a Flywheel are the origin texts for this translation. In view of the feature of the origin texts as an informative text, this translation project is under the guidance of Newmark’s communicative translation theory and reader-oriented principle of accurate, logical, smooth, readable and professional. It deals with kinds of difficulties such as:the translation of terms, long sentences and the indigestion of comprehension problem. The major translation skills used consist of equivalent translation, transliteration, restructuring, division, integration translation, conversion between actives and passives, popular-populairty and conversion between positives and negatives. It focuses on reproducing the original information and ensuring the standard, smooth translation for readers.The main contents of this thesis includes:the description of the project’s background and significance; the introduction of the source text including the background and main contents of the source text, and also the linguistic features and type of text; the process of translation, namely the preparation, planning and alteration after translation, and the alteration is based on the principles of idiomatic, concise and none-translationese; the most pivotal part of this thesis, the translation difficulties and solutions; and also a summary, including the experience and lessons learned from this translation that details, logical and background knowledge are crucial to the translation of terms, long sentences and understanding.
