Striving For Accuracy And Stylistic Equivalence

Academic papers of social science have always been the frontier of academic development. And in the increasingly frequent exchanges among countries, translation of academic papers has been playing the role of introducing new knowledge and acting as the bridge of communication. With the attention paid to academic exchanges increasing, translating academic papers in social science has been playing a more and more important role in the translation market. As a great part of academic papers, medical literature is essential in the development and exchanges of the medical science. Since medical literature is distinct in its diction and style, it has its particular requirements for the translators. This thesis will discuss the three major difficulties in medical literature translation, namely, translation of medical terminology, translation of long sentences and reproducing equivalent style of the original text. Incorporated with dynamic equivalence, transformational-generative grammar and other theories, this thesis aims at giving suggestion on strategies of translating papers, especially medical papers, in order to make sure the translated text is accurate, fluent, equivalent to the original text, and up to the professional standard.
