News translation as the conveyor of information and the vehicle ofintercultural communication plays a crucial role in the increasingly globalizedworld. As news translation is a purposeful activity, its communicative purposes and effects cannot be overlooked. Given thelinguistic and cultural differences between Chinese and English languages, andthe distinctive features of the journalistic language, a translator needs to employa variety of translation techniques such as amplification and omission, thechange in word order, etc., so as to convey messages effectively. In this report, the author tries to make an analysis of the translated textswith the help of multiple translation methods and techniques under the guidanceof German functional theories of translation. The analysis touches upon newsheadlines, cultural factors, language style, etc. It is hoped that this report is ofreferential value to those engaged in the rendition of news releases of similartypes.
