| The source text of this translation project is the thesis China’s Climate Change Policy: ToMitigate or To Adapt which was composed by Liu Xuejun, an associate professor at YunnanUniversity. The translator was authorized by the author of the original thesis to provide him withan English version that would be up to the requirements by the internationally-known academicjournal of Asia Survey. The source text is concerned mostly with climate change andinternational relations, two fields that are not quite to the knowledge of the translator, to be frank.However, viewing the challenge as an opportunity to review what is learned as well as topreview what is to be learned, the translator got down to work with meticulous presetting andfully-fledged readiness to test his ability to put theory into practice, bearing in mind the twofundamental goals that the project is expected to achieve: adoption of the English version by theaforementioned journal and application of various techniques acquired as a master’s candidate intranslation.The report is made up of four parts. Part One introduces the meaning, goals, requirements ofthe project and lays out the structure of the report. Part Two gives a backgrounder about theauthor and content of source text as well as describes the translator’s configuration and analysisof the original as to how to proceed with the whole project. Part Three outlines possibledifficulties to be dealt with in the course of translation, seeks theoretical guidance fittest to thegenre of the original and sorts out methods best relevant to the project. The last part sums upwhat the translator has acquired out of every step of the translation project. |
