| This is a project report on the translation of Chapter 8 of “TRAVIS'S LAW The Rise of Ridesharing chosen from The Upstarts Uber,Airbnb and the Battle for the New Silicon Valley”.This book was written by Brad Stone,a senior executive editor of global technology at Bloomberg News.Taking Uber and Airbnb,two sharing company giants as examples,this book introduces the rise and development of ridesharing in the sharing economic mode.This translation project can not only endow the general public with a deeper understanding in the concept of sharing economy,but also provide entrepreneurial experience for emerging sharing companies worldwide.This report is composed of five chapters.Chapter One is an introduction to the translation project,including the background,and the significance of the project.Chapter Two presents the analysis on the source text,including the profile of the author,the main contents,types and linguist features of the source text.Chapter Three is an elaboration on the theoretical framework which contains an overview of Toury's Translation Norms Theory,the relationship between Translation Norms Theory and translation studies as well as the application of the Norms Theory in this translation project report.Chapter Four is a case study which mainly elaborates on the key and difficult points and analyzes translation methods and techniques used in the translation process.The difficulties in the selected chapter mainly lie in the frequent occurrence of corporate names and business terms as well as the typically long and complicated sentences in the non-literary texts.Based on these difficulties,the translator mainly resorts to borrowing,annotation,division,combination and other methods to accurately convey information of the source text while making the translation more acceptable to the target readers.Chapter Five summarizes lesson from the translation project as well as problems which haven't yet been resolved in the translating process. |
