A Translation Project Report For Thoughts On Translation:The Translation Industry And Becoming A Translator(Chapters Two And Three)

This is a translation project report for the second and third chapters of Thoughts on Translation: the translation industry and becoming a translator written by Corinne McKay, an ATA-certified(short for American Translator Association certified) French to English translator based in Colorado of the U.S. In the source text, lots of down-to-earth tips are given to the beginning and experienced translators to earn more money, to market themselves more effectively, to work more efficiently and to enjoy their jobs, which would be great for the Chinese freelance translators' references. In the report, the author first describes the background, significance and structure of the project, and then focuses on difficulties and solutions in the process of translation. Guided by the Skopos Theory, the author adopts translation skills like addition, omission, negation, sentence splitting and conversion to solve understanding and expressing problems.The report can be divided into four parts as follows. Part One is a brief introduction to the translation project. Part Two is about the source text, including an introduction of the writer and an analysis of the ST. Part Three is a main part about the encountered translation difficulties and solutions. The last part serves as conclusion of the report, stating some lessons, experiences and limitations of the report.
