This is a translation project report of China’s Pension System: A Vision(Excerpt). The source text is a research report published on the World Bank’s official website, written by Mark C. Dorfman, Robert Holzmann Philip O’Keefe,Dewen Wang and other scholars. The research report gives a deep insight into China’s pension policy and prepares to develop a medium-term vision for strengthening old-age income protection in China. Authors of the report, who have long been serving the World Bank, are world-renowned sociologists with deep understanding about northeast Asian issues. The research is demonstrated with powerful and accurate ground arguments combined with China’s current condition, which makes the text is worthy of being translated.The original report is a industry document owns a great practical value. With a strong sense of purpose, authors organized report in logic of “rise question, analyze questions, solve problems” in accordance with national conditions. The main audience of the report are relevant policy makers, some adjustments have to be made in the process of translating in order to make translated work in line with their reading habits. According to Skopos theory, translation has a clear purpose and intention, given this, the work is done under the guidance of Skopos theory. Skopos theory was proposed by Hans Vermeer and developed by Justa Holz Manttari, Christiane Nord summarized it into three principles “purpose, coherence and fidelity”. Follow these principles, specific methods are used to make the translation more targeted. During the process of translation, the translator fully comprehended the importance of the Skopos theory in translating specific text.
