The thesis discusses how to translate the near-synonymous terms accurately. Accuracy is always seen as the basic requirement of translation. And term translation is a special part in the field of translation. Its particularity lies in the cross-cultural, cross-linguistic and trans-disciplinary properties. Besides, term has some characteristics such as professionalization, scientificity, systematicness and monosemy. So it requires translators to take accuracy as an important benchmark. In the project, near-synonymous terms appear in high frequency. It becomes a big problem to translate these near-synonymous terms. Then the thesis takes the four pairs of near-synonymous terms as examples to discuss the issue. The thesis is consisted of two parts. The first one is theoretical premise, and the second part is case study. It uses the methods such as theoretical arguments, illustration and contrastive demonstration. Finally it sums up the way of translating near-synonymous terms. In the first part, on one hand, it summarizes previous studies and analysis with respect to the term translation and its standards. On the other hand, it expounds the accuracy standard. Term translation needs translators to show the information of the source text in the target language as far as possible. Accuracy is essential in the field of translation. Accuracy refers to the degree of difference with standard value. The higher accuracy means the smaller degree of difference. So in the field of translation, the standard value refers to the meaning of original text. And the key point is to express the meaning of original text. It means the degree of difference between the translation and the original could be as small as possible, and the accuracy could be as high as possible. When translating terms, translators should have a positive and rigorous attitude towards translation activities. Translators also need to take notes in meticulous detail, think over the problems encountered and solve them eventually. In the process of translation, translators should try to find grounds of argument. The sufficiency of arguments depends on wealthy information, multiple channels for getting information, understanding of the original text, rigorous comparative analysis and so on. When the grounds of argument are sufficient, translators could get the correct perspective and approach of term translation and get the accurate translation. The second part is case study, which elaborates on the translation of four pairs of near-synonymous terms. Glossary of International Customs Terms is published by the World Customs Organization. It is adjusted and reprinted at regular intervals. Every term in the book comes from the international conventions and the actual customs operations. The content in the book is very rigorous. The translator often encounters some problems such as confused meanings, synonyms translation, polysemy and consistency. To keep the consistency, translators should take into account the systematicness of the term translation. Then the issues such as c confused meanings, synonyms translation and polysemy require the translators to ensure accuracy of the translation. This part lists four pairs of near-synonymous terms, which are all of high frequency and difficulty. The four pairs of terms are CARGO and GOODS, DUTIES and TAXES, GUARANTEE and SECURITY, RELIEF and REMISSION. Besides, the presence of these synonyms refers to different aspects of the customs service, which requires the translator to take a variety of methods to contrast and analyze these synonyms. Strong arguments ultimately help to determine the most accurate and appropriate translation. This thesis adopted the following reasoning methods:one is seeking abundant arguments, including bilingual dictionaries, original term interpretation, context, legal documents and other official documents, etc. The other is to make a comparative analysis of these arguments. Finally, the thesis induces proper translation results. To sum up, when translating the near-synonymous terms, translators should take the way of comprehensive translation. Not only to understand their literal meanings, translators need to grasp their core meanings based on abundant arguments, and express accurately in the target language.
