For African students whose native language is alphabetic writing,there are many difficulties in learning Chinese characters. Therefore,it is essential to discuss the teaching methods of Chinese characters to African studendts. The introduction of this paper introduces origin of the study,general situation and development trend at home and abroad,significance and innovation as well as main theories and methods of the research. The paper is divided into four parts,in the first part,we think that African students’ dificulties in learning Chinese characters forcus on three aspects through teaching practice,take the acquisition condiction of the African students in Bohai University as a example,and we analyze the reasons of these difficulties. In the second part,we propose the post-method of teaching Chinese characters to African students according to the analysis of above questions,this method emphasizes the flexibility to use a variety of teaching methods. According to the African students’ acquisition characteristics of Chinese characters, the post-method of teaching Chinese characters that we propose includes the following matters:making the write and recognize strategies according to students’ learning objectives;using the theory of six categories to explain Chinese characters;using medium appropriately to explain Chinese characters;changing their original words concepts and emphasizing the Chinese characters’ written rules;improving the students’ interests in classroom teaching through enriching teaching methods. In the third part,we apply post-method of teaching Chinese characters in specific teaching practice,after a semester of Chinese characters teaching practice,we have a exam to African students,then we analyze and evaluate the exam results. In the fourth part,we propose the improve suggestions according to the overall situation and problems,including textbook compilation,curriculum,and teaching design. In the last part of this article,we review and summarize the research process,put forward contribution the research may have,as well as lack and prospects of the research.
