| Popular science text is a style that combines literature with science,aiming to disseminate and popularize scientific knowledge and promote scientific methods in plain language.Because of its broad and numerous target readers,especially young readers,the popular science text is intelligible,scientific and literary.The source text of this practice report is Environmental Pollution and Governance in Parallel — the third Chapter of The Road to Environmental Protection,a popular science book.This chapter focuses on measures taken to control water pollution,water shortage,and solid waste pollution.The theme of the text meets the requirements of the times,helping people realize the urgency of saving water and protecting water resources.Under the guidance of the “Skopos Theory”,complying with “skopos rule”,“coherence rule” and “fidelity rule”,the writer studies ways to translate popular science text appropriately from the lexical level,the syntactic level and the discourse level:1)At the lexical level,the writer follows the “skopos rule” and “fidelity rule”,and uses omission,free translation,negation in translation by combining with the context,so that the translated terminologies and four-character words are readable and faithful;2)At the syntactic level,the writer follows the “skopos rule” and “coherence rule”,in which sentences' orders are adjusted,and omission and other skills are adopted.Changes of voice and addition of subjects are needed in the translation of sentences with no subjects.3)At the discourse level,the writer follows the “skopos rule” and “fidelity rule” to analyze the loose structure of Chinese sentences,and adopts ways of adding conjunctions,cutting the original sentences,etc.Through this translation practice,deep study of the application of “Skopos Theory” and translation skills in practice has improved the translation level of the writer to a certain extent,and has provided some references for the translation of similar texts in the future. |
