The Chenguang Art Association, which organized by Xiao gongquan,Wang yingbin,Xie lie,Zhu yingpeng,Lu jinglan and someone else, was active in Shanghai of the 1920s. Associators of it proposed to learn western painting skills. They regarded promoting western arts by propagating western painting skills as their responsibilities. When presiding over the establishment conference,Zhu yingpeng put forward that fine arts should be researched and painters’individual characters should be exerted. After then, they launched many kinds of art activities positively. Through investigating the era factors and culture background, the author ascertained its exact establishment time and canonical Constitutions firstly. Then this article analyzed all the efforts made by the associators.For examples, its meets and meetings of daily time, art exhibitions they had hosted or joined in, speeches about art education they had delivered, learning magazines Dawn they had edited, learning communications with foreign counties they progressed. Finely, this article studied the vision, spirits and social responsibility of Chenguang Art Association.After establishment, it had carried on the communications between China and western countries to promote the Western paintings’developments of local area and to bring up the aesthetic judgments of the common people. They also want to broaden the art vision of youth by their efforts above-mentioned. Since then, social art thought had been channeled off, local western painting had been profoundly contributed. The association not only promoted to learn ancient Greek art, but also paid close attention to social reality contemporarily. In author’s eyes, Chenguang Art Association shouldn’t be researched as an individual case. Through researching Chenguang art association, maybe we can learn about the art ecosphere and culture phenomenon of Shanghai, or even China.
