Though the informative SL text is abundant with long sentences with multi-level structures and complicated modifiers, the present author argues that, as the most significant purpose of the text is to transmit the message conveyed by the TL texts and rendering a readily understood version. As a reader-oriented task, it aims at a communication between the TL reader and the author. Therefore, the present author, guided by Newmark’s principle of communicative translation, translates these long sentences into shorter sentences that are easily understood, by adopting some practical strategies. |
