As one of prime ways to spread culture and information, news plays a significant role in cultural communication and has a potential impact on people’s opinions. It is not enough to rely only on the development of information technology to promote globalization of information. Translation is also indispensable. News translation serves as the foundation of communications between different languages. It enables news written in different languages to cross the boundaries of language and culture and be accepted by target reader groups. The paper chooses the news related to the 21st Century Maritime Silk Road as the main source texts for translation practice. Taking the rewriting theory proposed by Andre Lefevere as the major framework, this paper analyzes how ideology and poetics influence the choice of the author’s rewriting strategies in news translation and summarizes rewriting strategies.Compared to other subjects of news, political news is inevitably affected or manipulated by ideology and poetics of the time. Due to this reason, rewriting becomes a choice of translators in news translation. Andre Lefevere’s rewriting theory provides a much proper way to explain some phenomena in news translation. His theory states that all rewritings reflect a certain ideology and poetics. Therefore, analysis of ideology and poetics’impacts on news translation is of great significance in promoting the development of research on news translation. The author hopes that this paper could make some contributions to the development of news translation and draw more attention to this field.
