Elwyn Brooks White is a famous writer in America. His three fairy-tale works won the attention all over the world, which are known as one of the most popular fairy tales. His literature not only has abundant thought and connotation, but also pays special attention to children’s narrative skills. Therefore, his works become a milestone in children’s literature.Based on the theory of narratology, together with the major content of his three fairy-tale works, this thesis illustrates the narrative skills in his works in terms of three perspectives which are the suspense of the tale, the narrative space and the role played by the characters and the plot mode in the narration. The "Introduction" part introduces E.B.White’s literary creation and his achievements briefly, and reviews the research status on E.B.White’s fairy-tale works,in addition, illustrates the methods of this thesis. The main body of this thesis is composed by three parts. The first chapter demonstrates the setting of suspense in the fairy tales, and the solution to the suspense puzzle. The roller-coaster plot set is thought to be the main skill of the setting of suspense and the solution to the puzzle is made according to his rich imagination. The setting of suspense and the solution given go through E.B. White’s works and together drive the story forward. The second chapter, from the angle of the narrative space, analyses the relationship between the narrative space and the narrative perspective as well as the relationship between the narrative space and the plot structure, further discusses the narrative function of the space played in E.B. White’s fairy tale. The third chapter analyses the characters and the plot mode.According to the related A.J.Greimas’ theory, the characters in the fairy tale are analyzed and compared. On the basis of this, the deep plot mode are found, which hid the meaning in the text. Moreover, other plots are studied, which illustrates the abundance of the plot indirectly.
